Industry

Companies and industry organisations can support how research in environmental science, agriculture, energy and artificial intelligence is shared. This page explains how that works, and the rules that keep our editorial decisions independent.

Our principles

These apply to every form of industry support.

Editorial independence
Industry support has no influence on peer review, acceptance decisions or publication timing.
Clear labelling
Supported events, collections and videos name the supporter wherever they appear, on the item itself rather than in a separate list.
Separate from research content
We do not place advertising on article pages. Supported material is presented so that a reader can always tell it apart from peer-reviewed content, and is never positioned to suggest endorsement of a particular article.
Declared interests
Authors, editors and reviewers declare industry funding and relationships, as set out in our Publishing Policies.
Funding is declared on the article
Where a company funds publication costs, that funding is named on every article it covers, not only on this page.
Open access stays open
Support never buys exclusive or early access to articles.

Ways to work with us

Each option keeps scientific decisions with editors and academic committees.

Conferences and events
Support academic conferences and workshops in our subject areas. Programmes are set by the scientific committee.
Supported collections
Fund open access publication for a themed collection. The supporter is named in the call for papers, and the call, peer review and acceptance stay with the journal’s editors.
Talks and videos
Present technical talks alongside academic speakers. Recordings appear under Conference & Video, labelled with the supporter’s name. They are not peer-reviewed publications.

What support does not include

No form of industry support gives a company:

—Acceptance of any manuscript
—Access to manuscripts, reviewer reports or editorial decisions before publication
—Any say over an article’s content, conclusions or authorship
—Any role in choosing editors, reviewers or guest editors
—Any placement of promotional material inside an article
—Use of our name or our journal titles to suggest that we endorse a product or service

If you think these rules were not followed

Tell us. Write to ethics@the-newpress.com for a concern about research integrity or an undeclared interest, or to complaints@the-newpress.com to complain about how a case was handled. Where support was not properly declared, we publish a correction.
