Accepting a Review Invitation
Reviewers should accept an invitation only if they have appropriate expertise, can provide an objective assessment, have no unmanageable competing interests, and can submit the review within the requested timeframe.
What to Evaluate
Reviewers should assess the manuscript's originality, relevance to the journal, methodological soundness, data support, clarity, interpretation, limitations, ethical compliance, reproducibility, and contribution to the field.
Constructive Review
Review comments should be professional, specific, evidence-based, and useful to both editors and authors. Reviewers should distinguish essential revisions from optional improvements.
Confidentiality and AI
Manuscripts and review materials are confidential. Reviewers must not share them or upload them to public or unsecured AI tools. Any approved AI support should be disclosed in the review report.
Competing Interests
Reviewers should decline or seek advice from the editor if they have collaboration, direct competition, employment, funding, personal relationships, institutional links, financial interests, or other circumstances that could affect impartiality.
Research Integrity Alerts
Reviewers should alert editors to suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication or falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, ethical approval concerns, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts, or other integrity issues.
Citation Recommendations
Citation suggestions should be necessary and scientifically justified. Reviewers must not request citations mainly to increase citations to their own work, the journal, a colleague, or a particular group.
Recommendation to the Editor
Reviewers should provide a confidential recommendation where requested, supported by clear reasoning. The final decision rests with the editor, not the reviewer.
